Youth Return from National Youth Gathering in New Orleans - 2009

Youth Return from National Youth Gathering The 28 youth and adults from GSLC returned from the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans summer. GSLC’s area of focus was housing. Housing projects included learning about the housing crisis in our country, understanding New Orleans housing needs before and after Hurricane Katrina, some limited Habitat for Humanity projects, painting homes and churches, supporting neighborhood associations and learning about homelessness. Now that they have returned the group will begin to look at ways that they can address the housing issue within our community here in Wake County.

How an “Almost Musical” Totally Stole the Show

Cast on Stage Scrapbook! The Almost Musical, Written by Sally Sloop, Performed by Shepherd’s Quake under the direction of Tim Sweet
?????????? (five stars!)

What started off as a dreary fall day turned into a beautiful night of laughter and joy as Good Shepherd celebrated its 25th birthday with the play Scrapbook! The Almost Musical.  The play was performed in front of a packed house in a gym transformed on the night of Saturday November 8th, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Creedmoor Road.  The play promised to be “a journey through the eyes of some of GSLC youth”, and as we followed the memoir of Good Shepherd from “seedling to sanctuary” it became clear very quickly that this play would be hard to forget.  Continue

Youth Return from Mission Trip to Mexico - 2007

Youth Mission Team At the beginning of August, 13 participants ventured to Juarez Mexico to build a home for a young family with a one year old daughter. Part of our high school youth headed to Colorado on Aug. 3rd. They connected with Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp located near Hillside and venturde on to Mexico via automobile.

The group crossed the border on Monday and began building the modest home working alongside the soon-to-be owners. Working Monday through Wednesday for a combined 28 hours, our youth and youth leaders completed the 252 square foot home. It was dedicated on Thursday morning. The youth toured Juarez on Thursday and crossed over into the USA on Friday.

GSLC Youth Participate in Baltimore Mission Trip

Youth in Dust MasksGSLC and St. Philip youth ministries joined together to serve the Baltimore area this past month. The group spent time in Baltimore working with Lutheran Mission Society, an interdenominational ministry between the ELCA and LCMS. The group worked at a couple of the compassion centers throughout the city by cleaning up, painting, and preparing to expand one of the store centers. The group also worked with Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church helping to convert some storage space into a new youth room for the church. On Friday the group toured the Luther Center near the inner harbor, which is home to the national offices of Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, and Lutheran Services in America. In addition to all their hard work the youth also had a chance to take in a baseball game at the Historic Orioles Park at Camden Yards and tour the National Aquarium. The GSLC participants were Brooklynn Adkins, Kristyn Adkins, Rachel Boyce, Lindsey Lewis, Colleen Bove, Adam Vitek, Kristian Lee, Erin McCarty, Liz Sloop, and Dan Burris. Stay tuned for more photos
