Mission statement
The Media Ministry was set up in 2006 to help GSLC improve its communication of activities, events and programs at Good Shepherd. These goals are achieved by:
- Evaluating media/publications to ensure that information is communicated in a timely and concise fashion.
- Evaluating alternate means of disseminating information (e.g., email, website – instead of paper form)
- Evaluating the communication needs/preferences of the congregation
- Establishing media guidelines

2009 Goals
- Wittenberg Wall – Finalize and publicize guidelines for its use.
- Website - Finalize and post web-publishing guidelines. Work with Council and other ministries to post information and activities in a more timely and consistent manner.
2008 Highlights
- Pictorial Directory - In celebration of GSLC’s 25th anniversary, the Media Ministry coordinated the Pictorial Directory activity. This project spanned many months beginning with the hiring of the photographer/publisher in February and ending with the distribution of completed directories in October. We incorporated a novel on-line registration system to increase participation, resulting in over 250 families either scheduling photo sessions or submitting photos. The directory contains photos of our congregation, staff and activities, and an address/phone number directory of congregants.
- Preschool Website – Working with the Preschool Director, the Media Ministry built a website for the Preschool. The site, which became active in January, is linked to the GSLChurch.org site and contains information specific to the preschool (e.g. calendars, registration forms). This new media tool should help promote the preschool organization.
- Wittenberg Wall – The layout of the Wittenberg Wall was updated. Track lighting was installed so that information would be easier to view. The wall is now divided into distinct sections representing the 5 areas of the church organizational cross. We drafted guidelines for posting information on the Wall. We hope these changes will make the Wittenberg Wall a better Information Center.
- Website – Drafted guidelines for ministry/council use and publication of general information.
2007 Highlights:
- Conducted Communication/Media Survey
- Improved the way Pewsletters and Newsletters are displayed on the website (direct result of survey comments)
- Implemented email alerts to notify folks when the weekly Pewsletters and monthly Newsletters are available for viewing on the GSLC website
2006 Highlights:
- Streamlined the layout of the weekly Pewsletters to have fewer (and more clearly defined) sections – Announcements, Activities, Sunday Morning Education &Music, and Youth Activities
- Introduced Weekly Calendar for Pewsletters
- Created Web-based submission forms for Pewsletters and Newsletters
- Provided guidelines (length, timeliness, section placement) for Pewsletter submissions
- Pewsletter changes became effective January 2007
