Leadership Ministry Team Meeting Minutes and Action Items

03 May 2005

Members Present: Eric Vaughan, Paul Philips, Carol Henderson, Nancy Herje

Absent: Alex Plavocos

Action Items:

1.  Carol, please prepare a short (3 minute) devotion based on the Òpulling the church into the worldÓ theme from Rick BargerÕs book for our next meeting.

2. All.  We agreed to review the Ònext stepsÓ below and begin to build our leadership model at our next meeting.

Next Steps

1.  Build the Leadership Model

The team agreed that we are ready to Òstart building the model.Ó  We recognize that additional questions will arise as the model is being built and agreed to address additional questions as they arise.

Three (3) Areas that will be affected by the Leadership Model

Council

Staff

Budget

We also recognized that changes will be required to the legal documents/church constitution and will need to prepare a recommendation to Council for these changes when we present the Leadership Structure to them.

2.  How can we develop a Òliving and vitalÓ GSLC Leadership Structure?

As we develop the structure, we must:

á      Focus on Leadership Development

á      Develop a practical structure that allows members to live out and work the vision

á      Develop a structure that clearly identifies and communicates roles, responsibilities, and accountability of staff, council, committee chairs, and committee members.

á      Clearly identify functions that would/should be Òstaff drivenÓ and those that would/should be Òlay driven.Ó

á      Streamline/flatten the leadership structure.

Other Items Discussed

PD talked about his preferred focus

PD also presented his thoughts on a Òdiscipleship typeÓ of training program he would like to start in the Fall.  Recruit 12 participants, help them identify their gifts, and use a Biblical model to mentor them in leadership at Good Shepherd.  PD agreed that more work needs to be done to clarify the vision.  During the next few weeks, PD will work to identify objectives and specific goals for this group (i.e. at the end of the 12 week session, what does PD want the group to have achieved/learned).

Rick Bargers book:  Carol discussed the value of Rick BargerÕs bookÉparticularly how he encourages Òpulling the church into the world instead of keeping the church as a separate entity.Ó  Both Carol and PD highly recommended the group read the book.   Nancy asked Carol to prepare a short (3 minute) devotion based on the Òpulling the church into the worldÓ theme for our next meeting.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 17th in the Choir Room at GSLC
