Sunday Morning Education for Adults

Sunday Adult Bible Study -

One great way to study scripture is by exploring the Bible passages read at worship each Sunday. Called the Lectionary, these scriptures are a gift to the whole community of Christians. No experience necessary. This study is a good way to regularly meet Christ through the word. Led by Paul Lester at 8:15 am in E-14; and Jeff Dozer and David Falk at 9:45 am in
Pastor David’s office.

Whittecar Class -

All adults are welcome to share God’s word with other adults who have developmental delays. Our Whittecar Class uses the Sunday appointed lectionary to bring appropriate messages to light. Led by Peggy Ruopp, Sally Sloop, Cathie Strawbridge and Gail Vaughn in E-7.

May 17 - 31 - Relationship Series.

Topics include: Listening is Healing; Separateness in Marriage; Anger, Conflict and Marriage; Romance & Housework; Adult Parents and Your Marriage. Led by Stan Yancey in the Fellowship
Hall.

April 19 - May 31 - Introduction to the Spiritual Journey.

We will have a brief time of centering and worship followed by the chance to explore a different way to pray. Prayer practices we will explore: lection divina (sacred reading); breath prayer;
holy listening; daily examen (spiritual self-assessment); simple journaling and sharing faith journeys. Led by Pastor Jennifer in the Choir Room.

May 17 - 31 - How Lutheran’s Interpret the Bible.

A class intended to help grow our understanding of God's Word from our Lutheran perspective. The class will be taught by Vicar Shawn with video clips from Dr. Mark Allen Powell who is a
Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. The class will not prescribe "the Lutheran way" to read the Bible nor does it dismiss the way you have come to understand the Bible. Instead it presents a variety of Lutheran perspectives for interpreting the Bible through which we will discovers answers to questions we have always had about the Bible. Class will meet in the Sanctuary.

How to Listen to a Sermon by Pastor David-June 7th

For the regular worshipper the amount of time spent listening to sermons is
quite significant. Sermons are intended to provide us with not only a message about God, but a message from God. So there is much
at stake for us as we listen and absorb a sermon. This one Sunday seminar will reflect on how we listen to sermons. Encouragement
will be given on how to prepare for this time including personal reflection on the scripture lessons. Led by someone who has
been preaching for 31 years, this is an opportunity to hear what a preacher hopes happens in the course of preaching.

Pastor Jennifer’s Sabbatical- June 7 – Underwood Hall

After serving at Good Shepherd for 7 years, Pastor Jennifer will be on sabbatical starting June 14 and returning August 30. Sabbatical is a time for study and discernment as well as rest and renewal. This time away is meant to benefit the pastor personally as well as foster new direction and growth within the life of the congregation. Join us in Underwood Hall to hear about her plans and how her sabbatical may benefit our community.

Sunday Morning Education for Children

For the Glory of God, every member is actively involved in faith formation, deepening our relationship with God. GSLC Christian Education strengthens and encourages faith through classes that emphasize Biblical knowledge, spiritual disciplines, and life application. Learners of all ages (2-102) have the opportunity to be actively involved in Bible study, prayer, and service to build up the body of Christ (see Ephesians 4:12). Our Sunday Morning Education (SME) year begins with Rally Day in August and ends with Proclamation Day in May.
