Justification by Grace Through Faith

Our life with God is founded on God's eternal love.  This love was graciously poured out in Christ Jesus.  Our faith accepts God's unfailing goodness.

Sinner/Saint

The human person is never free from the basic condition of sin except through the mercy of God.  We will on this earth live with the tension of sinfulness and the call to serve God.  The Lutheran tradition guards against theology which makes us believe we can stop sinning.

Law/Gospel

All that God shares with us can be seen as either what God requires or what God gives. The church wants to guard this distinction so that God's gracious free gift is never confused with God's laws.   Our salvation is not dependent on the law.

The Means of Grace

Our Lord has chosen to use the ordinary stuff of life—water, bread and wine—as earthen vessels to communicate his gracious love.  We treasure the sacrament of Holy Baptism—when we belong to God—and Holy Communion where together we are strengthened for the journey of faith—as the means of God's grace.

One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic

These are the four marks of the church.  We seek to be united under one Lord whose Holy goodness we need.  God's church is everywhere to serve (universal or catholic) and we continue to share the story of Jesus' love just as did the first disciples (Apostolic).

Role of Clergy

Lutheran seminary-trained clergy are called to minister to the laity, called to minster to the ministers.  Chiefly this means insuring that the gospel good news is preached and the sacraments are administered.
